To all workplaces handling chemical substances, are you aware that the Labor Safety and Health Act was amended on June 1, 2016?
Risk assessment has been made mandatory for workplaces handling certain hazardous chemical substances (640 substances). ● What is risk assessment? It involves identifying the hazards and harmful effects of chemical substances and their formulations, estimating the degree of risk of danger or health impairment to workers, and considering measures to reduce risks. ● Which workplaces are subject to risk assessment? All workplaces engaged in the manufacture or handling of the specified chemical substances, regardless of industry or workplace size, are subject to this requirement. ● What substances are subject to the obligation to conduct risk assessment? According to Article 57-2 of the Industrial Safety and Health Act and Article 18-2 of the Enforcement Order of the same Act, the 640 substances that are subject to the obligation to provide safety data sheets (SDS).
